Nationwide minute of silence is observed

Chief Sergeant Oleksandr Kapliienko, call sign “Mykolaiovych,” was killed on April 7, 2022, near Novomykhailivka in Kramatorsk district. During an artillery strike, he sustained fatal injuries when the enemy attempted to break through the defense. He was forever 49 years old.

Oleksandr was born on September 10, 1972, in the village of Fedorivka, Bakhmut district, and lived in Nikolske. He graduated from Mariupol Electromechanical College and, in 2018, from Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute. He worked as a senior foreman at the Zoria substation of the Main Electrical Networks (MEN) of Ukrenergo.

In 2017, he joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving in the 311th Separate Engineer-Technical Battalion. Since 2020, he had served in the State Border Guard Service as a chief master sergeant.

“If it starts, leave, save yourselves. I will stay to defend,” his wife Iryna recalls.

He was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class. He was buried in Dnipro. He is survived by his wife, a son, and two daughters.

At 9:00 a.m., a nationwide minute of silence is observed. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform honor the fallen defenders of Donetsk region.
