Nationwide moment of silence

Published 28 October 2025 year, 09:00

Border guard Maksym Fidria, call sign “Historian,” was killed on October 28, 2023, near Kurdiumivka while carrying out a combat mission. Together with him, while rescuing a wounded comrade, his fellow soldier Dmytro Semenov also fell. Maksym was 42 years old.

A native of Kramatorsk, Maksym was a teacher of history, local studies, and law, having taught children for nearly 20 years. He loved traveling, hiking routes, and rivers, read extensively, and had a deep interest in mythology, philosophy, and heraldry.

Since 2020, he had served in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, 11th Border Detachment, as a border service inspector and rifleman in the rapid response commandant’s office. He fought from the very first days of the full-scale Russian invasion.

“He loved the steppes of Donetsk region and used to say: if I die, let it be in my native steppes,” his wife recalls.

He was posthumously awarded the Order for Courage, 3rd Class. Maksym was laid to rest in Bilenke, near Kramatorsk.

He is survived by his wife, son, and parents.

At 9:00 a.m. — a nationwide moment of silence.

The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform honor the fallen defenders from Donetsk region.
