Volunteer Serhii Ustymenko was killed on March 4, 2022, in Bucha — just a few hundred meters from home.
Russian forces opened fire on the car he was traveling in with friends. One person died instantly. Serhii and Nastia managed to escape the vehicle, but they were shot and killed.
Serhii was 25 years old. He was born in Donetsk and had lived in the Kyiv region since 2012. A graduate of the Faculty of Finance, he worked at DTEK but was more passionate about cars. He opened his own auto repair shop and helped anyone who came to him. He volunteered regularly and delivered pet food to shelters.
Those killed were buried in a yard and later reburied properly. At the site of his grave, his mother planted a magnolia tree.
"Serhii had many friends. On the anniversary of his death, they brought so many flowers that the entire grave was covered in bouquets. Every time I visit the cemetery, there are fresh flowers — someone is always coming to see him... He was my world. My life stopped when he was killed," said Tetyana Ustymenko, Serhii’s mother.
Serhii is survived by his parents and a brother with his family.
At 9:00 AM — a nationwide moment of silence.
The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Memorial platform: Killed by Russia honor the memory of Donetsk region residents murdered by the Russian Federation.
