On May 20, the Humanitarian Mission “Proliska” met an evacuation train in Mukachevo. It brought families from Donetsk region to the peaceful region. These people stayed at home to the last despite the shelling, destruction and constant fear.

Kateryna and her 9-year-old daughter Veronika are also among the passengers on the train. They have spent their entire lives in Druzhkivka. The mother worked in a supermarket, the girl went to school. Their normal life changed in the first days of the full-scale invasion. The woman had just started a new job.

There was massive shelling, air raids, especially in the neighborhood. Her daughter was scared, so Kateryna took her to work with her, because the store had a shelter where all the employees were hiding.

The family could not decide to leave for a long time. But on April 23, 2025, a rocket destroyed the house where they lived. Soon after, another strike hit. It was then that Kateryna decided it was time to save her child.

The family turned to the Kramatorsk District Military Administration for help. The Donetsk Regional State Administration contacted colleagues from the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration, and the family was found a place to stay.

At first, with the help of the Vostok SOS Charitable Foundation, the family was helped to get to the transit center in Pavlohrad, and then to Dnipro. And then - long kilometers of road. And peace of mind. In Zakarpattia, the family was met by the Proliska team.

Thanks to the funding from the Humanitarian Foundation for Ukraine, the girls were accommodated in a shelter in Berehove. It has everything they need for the first time, but most importantly, a chance to start a new life.

The Humanitarian Mission “Proliska” is grateful for the cooperation of Donetsk and Zakarpattia Regional Military Administrations. The organization is supported by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs / OCHA Ukraine.
