The cities of Donetsk Oblast cannot be erased from memory. Soledar is one of them. Its history is inextricably linked to salt, the labor of several generations, families, traditions, and the people for whom Soledar will forever remain their home.
In the context of war, it is especially important to preserve the memory of cities that have suffered destruction and to share their stories with future generations.
It is precisely for this purpose that the cultural and artistic project “Soledar: The Salt of Our Memory” was launched, within the framework of which a video about Soledar was created and presented—covering its history, uniqueness, salt mining industry, and the special bond its residents share with their hometown.
In this project, salt represents not only a natural resource but also a symbol of memory, strength, and resilience.
The project was implemented by the nonprofit organization “Svitanok of the Village of Yakovlivka” in collaboration with the Soledar City Military Administration and the Department of Culture and Media Affairs of the Soledar City Council.
This video was created as part of the CASCADE project, which is funded by the Swedish Institute and implemented by the East Hub subnetwork, part of Trans Europe Halles (Sweden). The project is coordinated by the IZOLYATSIA Foundation (IZOLYATSIA. Platform for Cultural Initiatives.) and Malý Berlín (Slovakia). Partners from Azerbaijan and Georgia have also joined the project.
Preserving memory today is a contribution to the revival of tomorrow. Soledar was. Soledar is. Soledar will surely be.
