As part of the “Side by Side: United Communities” project, integration and cooperation continue between the Bakhmut City Community in Donetsk Oblast and the Hoshcha Settlement Community in Rivne Oblast. A striking example of this collaboration is the experience of the Bakhmut Center for Vocational and Technical Education, which, following its relocation, continues its educational and creative activities within the host community in the town of Hoshcha.
The joint educational and practical work of internally displaced residents of Bakhmut and local residents—both students and the school’s teaching staff—has evolved into a large-scale cultural initiative. By joining forces, the artisans create authentic examples of Ukrainian clothing and textile products. They decorate shirts, bedding, eco-bags, and other utilitarian items with embroidered patterns. In these designs, the creators have harmoniously combined authentic motifs and the symbolic codes of the Donetsk region and Western Polissya.
For several years, students and faculty have been presenting their creative works at international competitions, exhibitions, and ethnic festivals. Participation in such events allows them to showcase the high quality of Ukrainian vocational education abroad, as well as fulfill an important mission of cultural diplomacy by promoting Ukrainian traditions around the world.
The success of the relocated institution in the Hoshcha community demonstrates that solidarity, mutual support, and a shared cultural vision can foster the development of Ukrainian youth’s potential despite all the challenges of today.
