Support is also when someone remembers a date that’s important to you. When they make time to come visit and give you a hug. When they understand why memories of your hometown bring tears to your eyes even as you smile.
On the 455th anniversary of Bakhmut, the Gostomel community—our friends and partners in the national project “Side by Side: United Communities”—joined the gathering of Bakhmut residents in Kyiv.
The people of Gostomel know all too well how war changes lives and how much human attention matters. On this day, people gathered who shared a common pain and a desire to find the strength for creativity and connection.
Together with artists from Bakhmut, the guests prepared a concert program. The “Zagrava” ensemble from Moschun delighted the audience with Ukrainian songs, sharing their energy and warmth.
The Bakhmut community thanks the Hostomel community for their friendship and the time spent together. For the people of Bakhmut, these September days are inextricably linked to home. And it is very precious to have friends nearby with whom they can share their memories.
