The Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Donetsk Regional State Administration continues to summarize the results of the region's athletes' performances at national and international competitions on a monthly basis.
At the end of June 2025, the best athletes of the month were determined in three categories: Olympic, non-Olympic sports, and sports among people with disabilities. The voting was conducted among the expert group of the Regional State Administration's Department of Physical Culture and Sports and fans on Facebook.
Among the Olympians, Anatoliy Novachenko from Kramatorsk, Master of Sports of Ukraine in Greco-Roman wrestling and a pupil of the School of Higher Sportsmanship in Donetsk Oblast, was named Athlete of the Month. He won a bronze medal in the 110 kg weight category at the European Junior Championships in North Macedonia among athletes under 17. In June, Anatoliy's mentors, Serhiy Vasylchenko and Ivan Dubrovin, were awarded the title of the best coach in Donetsk Oblast in Olympic sports.
The winner of the Best Athlete nomination among non-Olympians is Tetiana Nazarova from Pokrovsk, a Nordic walker. At the European Championships in Italy, she won a bronze medal in the individual 5 km race and a gold medal in the relay race as part of the Ukrainian women's national team.
In the category "Sports among people with disabilities," Ihor Shepelev from Mariupol, Master of Sports of Ukraine in chess among visually impaired athletes and a representative of the Donetsk Regional Center for Physical Culture and Sports for People with Disabilities "Invasport," was recognized as the best in June. At the World Chess Olympiad in Serbia, he took 4th place as a member of the Ukrainian national team - our team lost to the bronze medalists only in additional indicators.
