Donetsk National Technical University joined in the celebrations for Drohobych City Day. It was a busy day during which educators were able to step outside the classroom and show residents and visitors that science and technology are exciting and accessible to everyone.
The event, organized in collaboration with the “Tolokar DonNTU” mobile makerspace, ran throughout the day.
Representatives from DonNTU introduced visitors to the university’s history and presented the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026. They explained how to join the large-scale hackathon in Drohobych and emphasized that space research is open to specialists in various fields—programmers, designers, analysts, storytellers, and anyone ready to tackle global challenges.
The “Tolokar DonNTU” mobile makerspace showcased a mobile lab equipped with 3D printers. Visitors were able to witness the rapid prototyping process—from concept to finished physical model. During the interactive sessions, exclusive souvenirs were also printed for participants.
Chemical experiments were a highlight of the event. The university team demonstrated spectacular reactions, engaging both children and adults and showcasing the practical side of chemistry.
“It’s important to us that DonNTU was also part of this event during the City Day celebrations. We were able to introduce residents to the university’s history, tell them about the NASA Space Apps Challenge in Drohobych, and explain how to join the hackathon. We hope that many of the people who visited our booth will soon become participants. We want the university to be an open space where young people can test their abilities, work on global challenges, and bring their ideas to life,” said Denis Shilenko, Acting Rector of Donetsk National Technical University.
