

The new season of the Ukrainian Super League men's handball championship has started, and one of the teams that has been representing Donetsk Oblast year after year is Donbass. The first round has already been played, and each of the 8 participating teams will play 26 more matches.
Volodymyr Mytsyk, Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, and Kristina Rusinova, Director of the School of Higher Sportsmanship of the region, attended the regular training session of Donetsk Oblast handball players in Uzhhorod and congratulated the players and coaches on the start of the national competition.
"In 2025, Donbass handball players delighted their countrymen by winning bronze medals in the Super League and the Ukrainian Cup, and we believe that the team will be able to realize their ambitions for prizes in the new season. Despite all the challenges of wartime and the priority allocation of financial resources for defense, Donetsk Regional State Administration continues to pay great attention to the development of sports. We sincerely wish our athletes and their coaches inexhaustible inspiration and desire for new bright victories," said Volodymyr Mytsyk.
Due to their successful performances in the Ukrainian Super League as part of Donbass, Yaroslav Medyanyk, Vladislav Kukushkin and Andriy Zanimonets were awarded the title of Master of Sports of Ukraine, and the relevant certificates were handed over to the athletes. The team's coaches were awarded special honors for training the winners of the national competition: Ivan Fuchezhi received a certificate of honor from the Donetsk Regional State Administration and Mykola Sharko was awarded a letter of thanks from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
According to the regulations of the Men's Handball Super League of Ukraine, there are 14 rounds in total, in each of which the teams play double matches - two in each pair. In addition to SC Donbass, the other teams participating in the 2025/2026 season are Motor (Zaporizhzhia), Odesa (Odesa), Spartak Kyiv (Kyiv), Karpaty (Uzhhorod), Khmelnytskyi (Khmelnytskyi), Dynamo Academy (Poltava) and Avia-Grade-Constanta Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
