As part of the national project “Side by Side: United Communities,” a large-scale joint event was held by the teaching staff of Kostiantynivka Secondary School No. 1 and the Oleksandriya City Council Multidisciplinary Lyceum in celebration of Earth Day, observed on April 22.
The event was held on the Padlet digital platform, which allowed students from the two regions to come together in a single virtual space to exchange ideas, environmental initiatives, and practical experiences.
The focus was on a variety of student projects that combined a research-based approach, creativity, and hands-on activities. Particular attention was drawn to “plogging projects,” which harmoniously combined environmental responsibility with physical activity. Students demonstrated how the habit of caring for a clean environment can become an integral part of community life.
The STEM initiatives were no less meaningful. The “Insects—Engineers of the Future” project helped participants see nature in a new light as a source of innovative solutions for modern science and technology. As part of the “STEM Workshop: A Flower Is Nature’s Perfect Creation,” students explored the harmony of nature through a combination of biology, mathematics, and art.
A striking addition was the “Selfies with Nature” photo exhibition, which brought together the picturesque landscapes of Donetsk and Kirovohrad regions into a single digital gallery, highlighting the beauty and diversity of the Ukrainian land.
An important part of the event was the environmental quizzes and the “In Search of Ukraine’s Treasures” quest games, during which students not only tested their knowledge but also gained a deeper understanding of the country’s historical, cultural, and natural heritage.
The final stage was the project “Sustainable Development of Ukraine: Challenges and Solutions Through the Eyes of Children,” in which participants analyzed environmental threats and proposed their own ways to overcome them.
The event demonstrated that partnerships between educational institutions in different regions are an effective tool for fostering an environmental culture, active citizenship, and a responsible attitude toward Ukraine’s future.
