As the situation worsens, more and more people are seeking to leave Mykolaivka. This time, two “White Angel” teams, together with the patrol police and a Red Cross rapid response unit, evacuated more than 20 women and men, an 11-year-old boy, and 10 cats.

Every evacuation from Mykolaivka is a life-threatening endeavor. Some areas of the city are controlled by enemy UAVs, and “loitering” drones lie in wait for civilians and police. The dangerous journey is made possible by anti-drone equipment and armored vehicles.

This time, the evacuation was carried out by two teams, as the police had received many rescue requests. People were picked up from several locations to avoid crowding in one place. Most were elderly residents who had hoped until the very last moment to remain in their own homes. They waited to leave with only the bare essentials.

Among those evacuated was a woman with 10 cats. She was taking not only her own pets but also those abandoned by their owners.

“We walked 18 kilometers from Kaleniki. There were three of us—me, my daughter, and my son-in-law. A drone was flying overhead, saw that a man was with us, and struck right at our feet. My son-in-law’s legs were shattered, and my daughter was injured,” the woman recounts.

The police transported all those rescued to a safe location. Volunteers will then help them reach safer regions of Ukraine.

If you or your loved ones need to be evacuated, call 102.
