Legal Employment Without Risks: How to Protect Yourself from Labor Exploitation

Published 30 July 2025 year, 12:23

Every year on July 30, the world marks the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons — an important occasion aimed at raising awareness about a problem that remains highly relevant, especially in times of war, migration, and economic instability.

Modern slavery takes many forms, and the most common one is labor exploitation. This may involve deception by employers, promises of "easy money abroad" that turn into grueling work, unpaid wages, confiscated documents, or restrictions on freedom of movement.

The unemployed are among the most vulnerable to such risks, which is why the Donetsk Regional Employment Service is actively working to prevent such situations. Every day, our specialists:

Offer only verified job vacancies;

Provide consultations on safe employment and necessary documentation;

Hold seminars and trainings on secure job searching;

Cooperate with international and non-governmental organizations, as well as law enforcement agencies, in combating human trafficking;

Help people find legal employment to reduce the risks of turning to suspicious intermediaries.

We firmly believe that awareness is the best protection. In just the first seven months of 2025, we held over 400 seminars for nearly 6,000 participants, where we explained how to verify an employer, distinguish a legitimate job offer from a fraudulent one, and what to do if you suspect human trafficking.

By contacting the employment service, you receive not only help in finding a job but also reliable protection against the risks that may arise along the way.

If you have doubts about the legality of a job offer or want to learn more about safe employment in Ukraine and abroad, reach out to our career advisors. Contacts: https://t1p.de/rzryk.
