"Young Person of the Year – 2025" - Danylo Shuliar

Participant of the Regional Competition "Young Person of the Year – 2025" in the Nomination "Rescuer of the Year" Danylo Shuliar

My name is Danylo. I was born in 2002 in the city of Myrnohrad, a place where strength, resilience, and humanity are valued above all else. It's where I grew up, developed as a person, and found my calling: to help those who need it most.

I am a volunteer with the Myrnohrad City Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society. I am part of the Rapid Response Team, where I serve as a driver and participate in responding to emergencies.

My work focuses on evacuating civilians from the frontline cities and towns of the Donetsk region, including Dobropillia, Biletske, Bilozerka, Sviatohirivka, Rodynske, and other settlements where the situation remains tense and aid is critically needed.

I also take part in transporting the injured and in responding to events in a war zone. This is a demanding job that requires a clear mind, inner strength, and determination. I don't just drive a car—I drive people away from danger, helping them survive, endure, and escape.

In July of this year, I first joined the regional rapid response team to assist with an emergency in the city of Kramatorsk. It was a difficult emotional experience, but a very important one. Seeing human suffering firsthand only strengthened my resolve to be there for people during their hardest moments.

For me, volunteering is not just an action; it is a state of mind. It is a sincere desire to support people when the world around them is falling apart. I don't consider myself a hero; I simply do what I believe is right. And if my actions have made someone safer, then my path is not in vain.

I am proud to be a part of the Ukrainian Red Cross. Every trip, every call, every evacuation is my contribution to preserving human life and dignity in my native land. With this conviction, I move forward—focused, confident, and with an open heart.

To be able to act professionally and safely, I continuously improve my knowledge and skills. I have completed training in first aid, psychological first aid, as well as the internationally certified ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) course, which teaches effective responses to trauma in emergencies.

I will not stop and will continue to grow as both a volunteer and a person. Because I believe that true strength is not in weapons, but in humanity. And even one trip, one rescue, one act of support can change someone's life. This is what I live and act for.
