Alona Brazhko, a participant in the regional “Young Person of the Year – 2026” competition in the “Power of Management Decisions” category
Alena Brazhko began her professional career as a teacher at the Pishchansk school of the Pokrovsky district after graduating from the Donbass State Pedagogical University. Since 2015, she has been working in local government: first as the secretary of the village council, and after the decentralization reform - as the head of the Pishchansk starostyn district.
In the spring of 2022, with the beginning of a full-scale invasion, Alyona decided to stay at her workplace and ensure the life of the community. Together with her team, she organized support for local residents and people who were evacuated from the hot spots of the Donetsk region: the starostat coordinated the distribution of food, drinking water, clothing, and hygiene kits.
In October 2024, Alyona was forced to evacuate due to the worsening security situation. Having become an internally displaced person, she continues to fulfill her duties without interruption - she transferred the work of the starostat district to an online mode and daily helps residents solve their urgent issues remotely.
The main priority in her work is Alyona's individual approach to each person and preserving the unity of the community, regardless of where its residents are currently located. Despite all the difficulties, she remains in touch with her fellow countrymen and believes in the possibility of returning to the usual in-person format of work in her native land.
