Maria Okhmetzyanova, a participant in the regional “Young Person of the Year 2026” competition in the “Youth Initiatives” category
Mariia Okhmetzianova is a psychologist and specialist (consultant) at the Prymorsky Inclusive Resource Center of the Mariupol City Council.
After being forced to leave Mariupol, Mariia remained committed to her profession and continued supporting children with special educational needs who had been displaced across Ukraine and abroad because of the war. Together with her colleagues, she introduced innovative online psychological and educational support services, adapting assessment and intervention methods to remote formats and ensuring uninterrupted access to professional assistance regardless of where children currently live.
Mariia conducts comprehensive psychological and educational assessments, developmental support sessions, and consultations for children and their families, helping them adapt to new circumstances and continue their personal development. She also works to preserve the connection between displaced Mariupol families and their home community, offering not only professional guidance but also compassion and understanding.
Her work demonstrates dedication, resilience, and humanity, proving that innovative approaches and genuine care can help children continue learning, developing, and maintaining emotional well-being even in the most challenging circumstances.
