During the roundtable discussion titled “The Greek Community in Wartime: Preserving Greek Culture and Its Contribution to Ukraine’s Cultural Heritage,” the exhibition of the Museum of the Greeks of the Azov Region was officially opened.

This was reported by the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine.

In 2024, the Museum of the Greeks of the Azov Region was partially evacuated to Kyiv from the village of Kostyantynopil in the Velykonovosilky community. Among the museum’s artifacts are traditional household items of the Greek community: a low dining table, a spinning wheel, embroidered pillows, antique tableware, and more.

Activists from the village’s Greek community began collecting the collection back in the 1990s, under the leadership of chairwoman Nina Yeromenko, who remains its steadfast custodian. Until 2024, the museum operated at the school in the village of Kostyantynopil.

Today, the Museum of the Greeks of the Azov Region is becoming a center of remembrance and calls on the community and representatives of the displaced community to join in expanding and updating the exhibition.

Mariupol University has provided the museum with a suitable space that can accommodate additional items reflecting the everyday life of the Azov Greeks. In addition to artifacts, your story, a handed-down recipe for a traditional dish, or a ritual could become part of the collection.
