Museum Professionals in the Donetsk Region Held an Online Meeting Titled “Talking About Museums Over Coffee”

Published 24 June 2026 year, 15:22

On June 24, as part of the “Talking About Museums Over Coffee” series of online meetings, the Donetsk Regional Museum of Local History hosted an event titled “Common Mistakes in Grant Applications for UKF Competitions: How to Write a Successful Application.”

The topic was chosen for a reason—participants in previous events had repeatedly expressed interest in grant writing and the preparation of project proposals.

The meeting brought together museum professionals, cultural workers, civic activists, and anyone planning to secure grant funding to implement cultural and socially significant projects. After all, grant support is one of the key tools for developing cultural initiatives today, and a well-prepared application significantly increases the chances of success.

The event’s speaker was Olena Gavrysh—a Candidate of Economic Sciences, instructor in grant writing and fundraising, accessibility expert, and director of the “Rodina LG” Charitable Foundation. Ms. Olena has extensive practical experience in the field of grant-making and has successfully implemented 12 projects with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation under the “Inclusive Society” grant program.

During the meeting, participants examined in detail the typical mistakes that applicants most often make when preparing project proposals. The speaker explained what the experts at the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation focus on when evaluating applications, how to correctly formulate a project’s goals and objectives, justify its relevance, and define expected outcomes.

Special attention was given to issues related to project budgeting, common shortcomings in financial planning, and ways to avoid them. Participants also received practical recommendations on preparing a competitive application and reviewed examples of the strengths and weaknesses of project proposals.

The meeting took the form of an open dialogue. Participants had the opportunity to ask the speaker questions and receive expert answers regarding the specifics of participating in grant competitions.

The event served as a valuable platform for exchanging experiences and gaining practical knowledge that will help representatives of the cultural sector prepare higher-quality grant applications and participate more confidently in competitive programs.
