On July 16, as part of the regional platform “Dialogue Between Government and Business,” established at the direction of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, an online meeting was held on the topics “Engaging Opinion Leaders in Building a Network of Accessibility Ambassadors in Donetsk Oblast” and “Monitoring and Assessing the Level of Accessibility of Business Facilities in 2026.”

Nearly 100 representatives of business, state authorities, and local self-government bodies in the Donetsk region participated in the event.

During the meeting, participants were presented with an initiative to create a network of accessibility ambassadors. Discussions focused on engaging active representatives of communities, civil society organizations, the business sector, and other fields to promote accessibility principles, share best practices, and foster an inclusive environment. It was specifically emphasized that the ambassadors’ activities will be based on the principles of openness, a people-centered approach, accountability, and collaboration.

During the discussion, business representatives expressed interest in joining the network of ambassadors. The speakers noted that entrepreneurs, in particular, can become important agents of change, since creating accessible spaces in establishments not only improves the quality of services for people but also builds a positive image for the business and expands its customer base. Participants also received answers regarding the application process, candidate selection, and the ambassadors’ subsequent participation in events dedicated to promoting accessibility.

The second part of the meeting was devoted to monitoring and evaluating the level of accessibility at business facilities in 2026. Experts discussed the assessment criteria, the regulatory framework, and practical recommendations for preparing businesses for the monitoring process. They emphasized that the primary goal of the assessment is not to identify shortcomings, but to help businesses create a more accessible, modern, and comfortable environment for visitors and employees.

Special attention was given to government support mechanisms for employers. In particular, they reminded attendees of the possibility of receiving compensation for the costs of adapting workplaces for employees with disabilities.

The speakers emphasized that accessibility today is not only about complying with legal requirements but also an investment in service quality, business development, and competitiveness.

An active dialogue took place during the meeting; participants asked a number of practical questions and received expert guidance on implementing accessibility principles in their operations.
