Important issues of arts education in wartime were discussed in Donetsk region

Published 22 September 2025 year, 17:02

On September 22, 2025, a seminar entitled “Arts Education: Trends and Prospects in the Current Situation” was held for directors of arts schools, providing a platform for discussing pressing issues and exchanging experiences.

During the event, a number of problematic issues in the art education system at the present stage were considered, as well as the preservation of national identity as one of the key factors in ensuring national security.

The speaker at the seminar was Viktoria Kozina, head of the department of primary and specialized art education of the art education department of the State Agency for Arts and Art Education of Ukraine.

The main topic of the seminar was the prospect of relocating art schools and art colleges to safer regions of our country.

Art education institutions are facing unprecedented challenges, from the loss of premises and material and technical resources to the adaptation of students and teachers in new communities. The directors shared their experiences of the main stages in organizing the work of relocated institutions—from finding premises and restoring the instrumental fund to providing the necessary materials for classes, retaining student and teaching staff, recruiting first-graders, and resuming the educational process.

The relocation of art institutions has been not only a challenge but also an incentive to seek new avenues for development and engage local communities in cooperation.

“The mission of Donetsk region's art schools and art college is to preserve art education, support children and young people in wartime, provide them with psychological support, and ensure their spiritual and cultural growth as the foundation of national identity and social stability,” emphasized Viktoria Tochena, head of the regional administration's culture and tourism department.

The seminar clearly demonstrated that art education in Donetsk Oblast remains alive and dynamic, and its leaders are ready to overcome any challenges for the sake of the future of their students, who will later restore the culture of our region.
