Today, October 30, a memorial service was held at the Alley of Heroes in Khust for our heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as for all those who died as a result of the war. Fifty-four of our fellow townspeople joined the event.
In a joint prayer, they remembered everyone who stood up to defend the Motherland and gave the most precious thing—their own lives—for the sake of a peaceful future for Ukraine.
Viktor Hrytsak, head of the “Yednannia” humanitarian hub of the Pokrovsk Municipal Administration, explained that such memorial events take place in Khust on the last Friday of every month. Internally displaced persons from Donetsk Oblast always participate in the memorial service as part of the “Side by Side: United Communities” project.
“The war has brought grief to every home, regardless of whether we are in the east or the west of the country. For residents of Donetsk Oblast in Khust, the opportunity to honor the memory of fallen defenders together with the local community is a way to share their common pain and express their support,” noted Viktor Hrytsak. “This is the essence of the ‘Side by Side: United Communities’ project—to stand together, support one another, and preserve unity and a shared memory during the most difficult times.”
