The Donetsk Regional Museum of Local History, with the support of the Social Protection Department of the Izyaslav City Council, organised the cultural and artistic event ‘Sunflowers of Remembrance’. The event was dedicated to the Day of Remembrance for the Defenders of Ukraine who died fighting for the country’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Displaced persons from Donetsk Oblast joined the event.
Those present at the gathering paid tribute to the Heroes who sacrificed the most precious thing they had for the sake of our country’s freedom, independence and territorial integrity. They also learnt about the origins and symbolism of this day of remembrance. A highlight of the event was the creation of a collaborative installation entitled «Sunflowers of Remembrance». Each participant used a 3D-pen to create their own sunflower, and these flowers were later brought together into a single composition, symbolising a living memorial to those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
The event helped to unite the people of Donetsk, who have been forced to leave their familiar surroundings, around shared values: love for Ukraine, gratitude to its defenders, respect for the memory of the fallen, and faith in our Victory.
