Business and IDP Support from the Employment Service: The Success Story of Liudmyla Kovalenko

Published 04 November 2025 year, 12:53

You can grow, take action, and start your own business at any stage of life. The key is to have the desire to move forward, faith in yourself, and a clear plan of action. The state, for its part, offers various support programs that help people take their first steps in entrepreneurship. The Employment Service plays a crucial role in this process, guiding individuals from the idea stage to full business implementation.

Liudmyla Kovalenko experienced this firsthand. After many years of working in the medical field, she was inspired to open her own practice — but a lack of funds had long been an obstacle. The solution came through the “Own Business” grant program, implemented with the support of the State Employment Service.

Specialists from the Sloviansk-Bakhmut Office of the Kramatorsk Branch of the Donetsk Regional Employment Center provided her with information and consultation support, explaining the conditions for participation and the process of preparing a business plan. Eventually, Ms. Liudmyla became a program winner, received a grant, and purchased computer equipment and medical devices for shockwave therapy — a modern method for treating musculoskeletal disorders.

Developing her own business not only allowed her to fulfill a professional dream but also to create new jobs. To recruit staff, Liudmyla once again turned to the Employment Service. The specialists helped her fill vacancies, and soon nurses Tetiana and Karina joined her practice.

Collaboration with the Employment Center continues. The specialists introduced Liudmyla to other employer support programs, including compensation for hiring internally displaced persons (IDPs) — an initiative that helps entrepreneurs not only grow their businesses but also support those forced to leave their homes because of the war.
