Ms. Valentyna is 63. She is from Kramatorsk, has a degree in civil engineering, but has worked all her life wherever she could.

"I didn't shy away from any job to stay on my feet. My daughter died, and I was the only support for my two grandchildren. They now live in Turkey. Poor eyesight and a huge distance separated us for years," said Ms. Valentyna.

After being evacuated by the crew of the Vostok SOS Charitable Foundation, Valentyna received temporary shelter at the Center for Social Adaptation for People with Disabilities of the Ocean of Good NGO. At that time, she could hardly see.

Oksana Akchebash, a social worker at the Vostok SOS Charity Foundation, started with the most important thing - she helped her to restore her documents to receive the necessary payments. At the same time, she facilitated a medical examination to check her eyesight - Oksana enrolled the woman in a private clinic Medical Plaza, which participated in the program for IDPs. The surgery was performed there free of charge. The specialist of the "Vostok SOS" CF accompanied Valentyna at all stages.

"After the procedure, she stood up and said: "I can see". When I held out my hand to guide her, she replied: "I'll do it myself". And from that day on, she really didn't need any help, she became independent, full of courage, confidence and gratitude," said Oksana Akchebash, a social worker at the Vostok SOS charity foundation.

The first thing Valentyna did was call her grandchildren via video. And then she decided that she would go to them. We helped her to get a passport, and a social worker accompanied her during the trip.

Now Ms. Valentyna lives in Denmark, learns the language and is interested in the culture. She says she has started to enjoy life. We are happy because we were able to be there for her when she really needed us.

Many people hesitate to evacuate for a long time because they are afraid they will not cope in a new place. Due to age, health problems, loss of documents, or simply exhaustion. However, during the full cycle of evacuation, the team of the Vostok SOS Charitable Foundation proves every day that even in a difficult condition a person will receive the necessary support and accompaniment.

Psychosocial support is provided to the evacuees within the framework of the project "Protection and psychosocial services for people with limited mobility and persons with disabilities affected by the war", supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
