Representatives from Donetsk Oblast took part in a press conference on the outcomes of the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women

Representatives of Donetsk region, in particular the Department of Family, Youth and Mass Events of National and Patriotic Education of the regional state administration, took part in a press conference dedicated to the results of the work of the Ukrainian government delegation at the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, which was held on April 6 in Ukrinform in offline and online formats.

The event was organized by the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy together with the Ukrainian Women's Fund. The event was moderated by the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, Deputy Head of the Delegation Kateryna Levchenko. The event became an important platform for presenting the key results of Ukraine’s participation in the international dialogue on ensuring gender equality, combating gender-based violence, conflict-related sexual violence, and developing approaches to gender-sensitive state reconstruction.

The event presented the key results of the Ukrainian government delegation to the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, and discussed further steps to advocate for Ukraine’s interests in the international arena. The focus was on international support and justice, gender mainstreaming in reconstruction processes, implementation of the Women, Peace, Security agenda, responding to conflict-related sexual violence, and holding the Russian Federation accountable for war crimes.

The participants of the event focused on the importance of strengthening international support for Ukraine, developing mechanisms for justice and reparations for victims, implementing a gender approach in recovery policies, and further implementing the Women, Peace, Security agenda. Particular attention was paid to the importance of interagency cooperation, partnerships between government agencies, civil society, and international organizations in shaping effective policies to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

As First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine Lyudmila Shemelinets emphasized, “the issue of ensuring gender equality and combating gender-based violence, combating human trafficking is an extremely important part of the roadmap for ensuring the negotiation process for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. That is why the government approved a plan for implementing the framework program for cooperation between the government of Ukraine and the UN on preventing conflict-related sexual violence.”

During the event, representatives of central executive bodies, international organizations, parliament, and the public sector presented Ukraine's achievements presented during the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. In particular, the topic was the approval of the National Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace, Security", the development of mechanisms for responding to discrimination and violence, improving policies to combat human trafficking, taking into account a gender approach in the processes of reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as strengthening cooperation with the non-governmental sector and international partners.
