Vadym Filashkin’s greeting on Vyshyvanka Day

Published 21 May 2026 year, 08:50

When an enemy seeks to destroy a nation, it first tries to take away its symbols, memory, and voice. That is why the Ukrainian vyshyvanka has long become something far greater for us than just clothing.

Its ornaments carry our history, character, and resilience. Within it lives the memory of our ancestors, the strength of family, and the connection between generations. It was banned, mocked, and nearly erased — yet it endured, just as the Ukrainian people endured.

Today, vyshyvankas are worn by soldiers after combat missions, children in evacuation, doctors after exhausting shifts, and people in towns and villages under shelling. Because this is not simply a holiday tradition. It is an inner feeling: I am Ukrainian, and I have roots that no one can tear away.

Happy Vyshyvanka Day, Donetsk Oblast. Happy Day of our strength, memory, and unity!
