Relocated enterprise from Donetsk region continues to breed goats in Lviv region

Published 24 September 2025 year, 11:59

Twenty years ago, Larysa Gurova, a teacher from Donetsk, bought her first three goats. But for two years before she bought the animals, she had been studying animal husbandry and veterinary medicine to learn how to properly keep and care for her pets. The more she got to know the animals, the more she immersed herself in her favorite business.

Over the past twenty years, the number of goats has increased to 200, and in the village of Novokhatske, Komarska community, Volnovakha district, Larysa Gurova established the farm "Ogo-Go Goats-Goats", which was engaged in breeding goats and making cheese. In order to run her business competently, Larysa completed five business courses in farming and cheese making.

The amount of milk she received from her goats allowed her to build a cheese dairy and equip it with equipment with grant funds. Thanks to the latest grant from Mercy Corps, the farmer was able to purchase a tractor with a seeder, which allowed her to cultivate the land and prepare fodder for the goats.

Larysa Gurova's real dream is to create a Ukrainian goat breed. She has selected a number of short-eared goats from her herd and is selecting animals based on clearly defined breed characteristics.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the animals have experienced severe stress, which has led to a decrease in productivity and premature births, but they still got used to everything.

Over time, the Komar village military administration warned that the entire community was in the area of enemy UAVs, and that it was necessary to leave the village.

A post on Facebook that a goat farm from Donetsk Oblast needed a place to keep animals attracted many people with offers. Larysa chose the "Farm Ranch" in Pochaevychi, Drohobych district, Lviv region.

This farm had premises where she could transport the goats and start working right away, rather than having to repair and equip them.

No animals were harmed during transportation, but they, like every living creature, undergo adaptation: they get used to the new climate, terrain, and conditions of keeping and feeding.
