Employment Service Always Nearby: A Story of Support for IDPs

Published 07 November 2025 year, 11:35

The story of Ms. Liudmyla is an example of true resilience, self-belief, and how the Employment Service helps people find a new path in life — even when circumstances seem insurmountable.

Liudmyla Tkachenko, a resident of Makiivka in Donetsk region, was forced to leave her home in 2014 because of the war and move to Dobropillia, where she obtained internally displaced person (IDP) status. She holds two university degrees — in economics and mining engineering. Life seemed to be getting back on track, but new challenges once again led her to seek support.

Due to health issues, she was granted a disability status and could no longer work in her previous field, so she turned to the Employment Service for help.

Specialists helped her find a suitable position — Liudmyla became a bookbinder at the Dobropilska coal mine. It was work she could perform given her health condition, and she devoted nearly nine years to it with gratitude.

However, her desire to grow did not fade. Liudmyla decided to change her profession and, through the training voucher program implemented by the Employment Service, enrolled at the Donbas State Pedagogical University to study psychology.

When the full-scale war began, she again lost her job and home. She moved to Dnipro and once more sought help from the Employment Service — this time from the Dobropillia-Myrnohrad office of the Pokrovsk branch of the Donetsk Regional Employment Center.

A career advisor helped her develop an individual employment plan tailored to her health, experience, and preferences.

Within a month, Liudmyla was employed as an after-school group teacher at Gymnasium No. 14 in Dnipro.

Now she continues her studies and dreams of working in her new field — as a practical psychologist, helping children adapt to the difficult realities of today.

“I’m grateful to the Employment Service for their support and belief in me. Thanks to their help, I have a job again, I work with children, and I see meaning in moving forward,” — says Liudmyla.

💙 The Employment Service is always nearby — helping people find their path, supporting them in training and employment, and inspiring them to never give up.
