Social transportation is an important part of evacuation. After leaving the frontline area, people need help getting to a place where they can receive proper conditions, care, and support. For people with limited mobility, such a journey is often impossible without special transportation and an escort.
Every day, the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation’s social bus runs from the transit center in Lozova to Dnipro, helping people safely continue their journey. Upon arrival, the support continues: the foundation’s specialists accompany evacuees to banks, medical facilities, and social welfare agencies.
This assistance was provided to 79-year-old Lyudmila and her 59-year-old daughter Marina, who had lived their entire lives in Sloviansk, Donetsk Oblast. In November 2025, Marina suffered a stroke, which left the left side of her body paralyzed. Her mother took on the responsibility of caring for her daughter, but five months later, she, too, suffered a stroke.
Due to the deteriorating security situation, the family decided to evacuate. In June, an evacuation team from the “Skhid SOS” Charitable Foundation helped the women reach the transit center in Lozova. There, the foundation’s specialists helped them apply for government assistance and arranged transportation to the “Ocean of Goodness” Center for Social Adaptation of People with Disabilities in Dnipro.
Currently, Lyudmila and Marina are receiving round-the-clock care and undergoing rehabilitation. The foundation’s team continues to support the family: social workers are helping them transfer their pension payments from the post office to a bank card, while housing managers are looking for a permanent place for the mother and daughter to live together.
Since June 2026, the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation team has carried out over 700 social transport trips.
These social transport trips are carried out as part of the EMPOWER project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in partnership with the European Union and implemented by GIZ Ukraine.
