For some people, dumbbells and exercise machines are simply pieces of gym equipment, but for them, they are tools for daily triumph over adversity. That is why Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs is continuing a series of adaptive strength training sessions for male and female veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The sessions were led by Alina Kramarenko, an instructor in the Department of Special Physical Training at Donetsk State University of Internal Affairs. The key feature was an individualized approach: the exercises were adapted to each participant’s physical capabilities, the nature of their injuries, and their fitness level.
A striking example was a wounded Special Operations Forces soldier who, despite losing both hands, did not give up on sports. Using special braces and weights on his forearms, he proved by his own example that there are no limits to what is possible.
