Today, the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater (Mariupol) is more than just an artistic troupe. It is a guardian of memory, the voice of Donetsk Region, the voice of Mariupol—a city that has been brutally destroyed but not broken. Through the stage, the spoken word, and human emotion, the theater continues to convey the truth about the war to the world and affirm the indomitable spirit of Ukraine.

For the fourth consecutive year, the theater has initiated and organized commemorative events dedicated to honoring the victims of the tragedy of March 16, 2022. This peaceful initiative has become not only a sign of mourning for the deceased but also an important expression of unity, solidarity, and shared responsibility for preserving the truth about the crimes committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

This year, the memory of Mariupol once again reached far beyond Ukraine’s borders. Alongside events in our country, the Donetsk Academic Regional Drama Theater embarked on an international tour of cities in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In London, Exeter, and Liverpool, the theater presented the storytelling performance “The Mariupol Drama”—a stage narrative based on real testimonies, the pain of loss, the experience of survival, and an unshakable faith in recovery.

The broad support of the theater community abroad gave this year’s events special significance. Representatives of theaters from European countries joined the memorial campaign, and in the United Kingdom, it was supported by theater companies from 15 cities. Theater communities in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldova, Germany, Israel, and other countries also expressed solidarity with Ukraine. This international participation demonstrated that the tragedy of Mariupol remains within the shared European moral consciousness, and the memory of its victims resonates in the hearts of people across different countries.

For the theater troupe, this tour was a continuation of an important cultural mission. Every performance abroad is not only an artistic event but also a living conversation with the world about war, human suffering, the loss of home, and the strength of spirit. It is the voice of people who have survived tragedy but managed to preserve their dignity, their profession, and their inner resilience.

The encounters with the British audience after the performances were exceptionally moving. Audience members thanked the actors for their honesty and courage, expressed support for Ukraine, and shared their empathy and words of solidarity. Such moments reaffirm that culture has the power to bridge distances, unite societies, and convey the truth more powerfully than any official statement.

We express our sincere gratitude to the United Kingdom for its support of Ukraine, its openness to Ukrainian art, and its genuine human empathy. In times of great trials, it is precisely such expressions of international solidarity that strengthen our faith in justice, shared memory, and future victory.
