How Soon After Dismissal Should You Register with the Employment Center?

Published 05 June 2026 year, 13:36

In our “Questions & Answers” section, we explain how soon after losing a job you should register with the Employment Center.

After being dismissed from work, many people wonder how much time they have to register with the Employment Center in order to obtain unemployed status and qualify for unemployment benefits. This is important because timely registration allows individuals to receive social support and employment assistance more quickly.

Ukrainian legislation does not establish a specific deadline within which a person must register with the Employment Center after dismissal.

This means you may apply:

✅ immediately after losing your job;

✅ or at a later date.

However, it is not advisable to delay registration, as this may affect the timing and amount of unemployment benefits.

At the same time, special registration deadlines are предусмотрed for certain categories of citizens.

For example:

🔹 individuals of pre-retirement age who seek early retirement must apply to the Employment Service within 30 calendar days of dismissal;

🔹 special conditions may also apply to certain categories of military personnel.

After registration, the Employment Service:

🔹 assists in job searching;

🔹 offers current job vacancies;

🔹 organizes vocational training;

🔹 provides unemployment benefits in accordance with the applicant’s insurance record and the grounds for dismissal.

Therefore, although there is no mandatory deadline for registering after dismissal, it is best not to postpone contacting the Employment Center.
