A commemorative plaque dedicated to the outstanding Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych was unveiled at the railway station in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytskyi region.

The memorial plaque was relocated from the Pokrovsk railway station due to the security situation and the constant threat of destruction of urban infrastructure as a result of hostilities.

The event was dedicated to the 148th anniversary of the birth of the composer, author of the world-famous Christmas carol "Shchedryk," which is sung today in different parts of the world. It was in Pokrovsk that Mykola Leontovych created this work — a symbol of Ukrainian Christmas that has become part of the world's cultural heritage.

The new location was not chosen by chance: Leontovych studied at a theological seminary here, and it was from here that Oleksandr Koshyts' Ukrainian Republican Capella set off for Europe.

The initiator of the rescue was the former head of the Pokrovsk railway station, Serhiy Ptashynsky, who personally removed and hid the memorial in 2024. The memorial plaque will remain in Kamianets-Podilskyi until it is safe to return it to Pokrovsk.
