On 25 October 2026, a meeting will be held in Kyiv dedicated to prominent members of the post-Azov Greek community — the Urums and Rumays, a distinctive ethnic community whose history and culture are closely linked to the Donetsk region.
During the event, participants will learn about members of the community who have made significant contributions to the development of culture, science and sport, as well as to the struggle for Ukraine’s independence. Among them are the writer and translator Lyudmyla Kovalenko, the psychologist and professor Heorhii Chelpanov, the Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Viktor Chukarin, a member of the ‘Sixties’ movement Raisa Moroz, the artists Nataliia Paren and Lel Kuzminkov, and the actor and singer Davyd Yuzhin.
Valentina Yevseyenko – co-founder of the non-governmental organisation ‘The Nadazov Greeks: Urums and Rumays’ and a researcher into the history of the Urums and Rumays in Kyiv – will speak about the lives and work of these outstanding members of the community.
The event aims to shed light on little-known chapters in the history of the Nadazov Greeks, preserve the memory of these outstanding compatriots and draw attention to the cultural heritage of the Donetsk region.
We invite anyone interested to join the event, learn more about the prominent representatives of the Nadazov Greeks, and discover little-known chapters of the history and cultural heritage of the Donetsk region.
