Settlements in Ukraine’s frontline communities come under Russian shelling every day. For many residents of these areas, evacuation is their only chance of survival.
In May 2026, a team from the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation rescued 534 people from danger. Most of them are residents of the Donetsk region: Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, and Sloviansk.
66-year-old Alla and her husband Mykola are among those whom our foundation’s evacuation teams helped leave the frontline area. For the couple, leaving Kramatorsk was their chance at survival. Recently, her husband underwent a complex heart surgery. Due to his health condition, the family hesitated to evacuate until the very last moment, worried about how the journey would go.
When another enemy shelling of the city occurred just two buildings away from their home, it became clear: they had to leave immediately. The foundation’s evacuation team transported the couple to a transit center in the city of Lozova. First, the team provided psychological support to the woman after everything she had been through. The logistics team provided Mr. Mykola with full assistance in obtaining aid and processing the necessary documents. The couple then boarded an evacuation train to join their relatives in western Ukraine.
It is stories like these that make up the daily rescue and support efforts for those in need. In May, at transit centers, the logistics team of the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation also provided 453 services, including: individual support for evacuees, assistance in finding places for further accommodation, and help in accessing social and medical services.
Rescue and assistance were provided as part of the project “Comprehensive Support and Protection for Vulnerable Categories of Evacuees,” implemented by the “Sхід SOS” Charitable Foundation with financial support from the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund (UHF).
