President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Prime Minister of Estonia Kristen Michal, during which the leaders signed the Joint Declaration on Enhanced Security and Defense Cooperation.
The document provides for security assistance, exchange of experience, cooperation in the defense industry and air defense, including a joint commitment to developing multilayered missile defense capabilities in Europe.
Ukraine and Estonia also continue work on an agreement under the Drone Deal format. Its draft is already under consideration by the Estonian side.
The Head of State outlined Ukraine’s needs in strengthening air defense and briefed the Prime Minister on work with partners on anti-ballistic protection for all of Europe. The President thanked Estonia for its contributions to the PURL initiative and noted that Ukraine counts on continued support.
The leaders also discussed the importance of increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation and the preparation of the EU’s 21st sanctions package. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the importance of introducing stronger measures against Russia’s shadow fleet in the Baltic Sea.
Special attention was paid to Ukraine’s path towards European Union membership. The President noted that our country expects all six negotiation clusters to be opened during June–July.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Estonia and the Prime Minister personally for supporting Ukraine and presented Kristen Michal with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, II class.
