Today, Ukrainian women are increasingly mastering new, sometimes atypical professions, expanding the horizons of their own opportunities. The State Employment Service actively helps them in this.

As part of a pilot project, women have the opportunity to master so-called “male” professions — from welder to tractor driver, from electrician to machine operator.

Training is provided at the request of the employer, who undertakes to employ the program participant upon completion. This approach not only allows for the training of qualified specialists, but also ensures them guaranteed employment.

Among the professions available within the project are:

⦁    tram, trolleybus, and forklift driver;

⦁    CNC machine operator;

⦁    locksmith;

⦁    milling machine operator;

⦁    renewable energy systems installation and maintenance technician;

⦁    other technical specialties in demand on the labor market.

How does it work?

The employer submits an application to the employment center. After that, the female participant independently chooses an educational institution from an approved list. The employment center compensates for training costs within 10 times the minimum subsistence level for able-bodied persons (currently UAH 30,280). If the cost exceeds this amount, the difference can be paid by the employer or the participant herself.

Already in action:

At the end of May, a group of women from Donetsk region began training as tractor drivers at the Oleksandrivsk Professional Agricultural Lyceum. This is an example of how women are able to compete confidently in the labor market, overcoming stereotypes and opening up new avenues for development.
