The children from the Druzhkivka Children’s Residential Care Home, who are currently in the Kingdom of Spain, solemnly celebrated Ukraine’s National Flag Day and the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. Despite being far from home, the children gathered together to honor our country’s most important holiday and experience the spirit of unity among the Ukrainian people.
The celebration began with the raising of the blue-and-yellow flag and a joint performance of the Ukrainian national anthem. The participants prepared a rich program: poems and songs about Ukraine were recited and sung, dance performances took place, and engaging quizzes were held. Particularly moving were the performances dedicated to their homeland, freedom, and peace.
The children, dressed in embroidered shirts, performed traditional Ukrainian dances and formed circles to dance to familiar melodies.
On this day, the students reflected on important chapters in our country’s history, discussed the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people, and honored the memory of all those who gave their lives for Ukraine with a moment of silence.
The students also joined the march of Ukrainians in support of Ukraine, demonstrating unity, resilience, and love for their homeland.
This day served as a true testament to the fact that Ukrainians, no matter where they are, preserve their identity, culture, and love for their homeland. The atmosphere of the celebration was filled with warmth, patriotism, and faith in victory.
Celebrating Independence Day in faraway Spain proved that Ukraine is in the hearts of each of us, and its strength lies in the unity of its people.
We are infinitely grateful to the Kingdom of Spain—the country that has provided refuge to our children—as well as to its kind citizens and all volunteer organizations for their invaluable help and support. Every step like this brings us closer to our shared Victory!
