Senior Sergeant Serhii Chernyshov was killed in action on September 10, 2022, while liberating the city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region from Russian occupiers.
He sustained fatal injuries as a result of an airstrike. The defender was 42 years old.
Serhii was born in the village of Malynivka in the Kramatorsk district. He graduated from the local secondary school and completed his mandatory military service in an airborne reconnaissance unit. Afterward, he worked at a metal depot and later became a forest master at the Sloviansk Forestry Enterprise, Chasiv Yar Forestry.
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Serhii volunteered to defend Ukraine. He served as the chief sergeant of the 1st platoon, 2nd company of the Donbas Special Forces Battalion.
Posthumously, Serhii Chernyshov was awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class.
He was laid to rest in Sloviansk, at the cemetery on Danylo Halytskyi Street.
At 9:00 a.m., Ukraine observes a nationwide moment of silence.
