Machine gunner Oleksandr Verikhov was killed as a result of enemy rocket fire on the Zaporizhzhia power substation on January 26, 2023. The defender was 44 years old.
Oleksandr was born in Sloviansk. He graduated from Secondary School No. 13 and the Sloviansk Machine-Building Lyceum. He worked in a ceramics workshop.
He later continued his studies part-time at the Sloviansk Energy Construction Technical College, but did not manage to graduate before the full-scale war began.
From the very first days of the war, Oleksandr, as part of a combined detachment of the National Guard of Ukraine, carried out tasks to defend an important state facility – the Zaporizhzhia power substation, located near the village of Znachkove in the Pavlivka community. He served as a grenadier in the 23rd separate brigade of public order protection “Khortytsia.”
By decree of the President of Ukraine, he was awarded the Order of Courage, III degree (posthumously).
Oleksandr was buried in the cemetery of the village of Myrne in the Sloviansk community.
At 9:00 a.m., there will be a nationwide minute of silence. The Donetsk Regional State Administration and the Heroes Memorial platform will commemorate the fallen defenders from Donetsk Oblast.
