64-year-old Olena Hrebeshkova was killed on May 23, 2023, in Avdiivka.
The Russian army once again struck the city. The shelling destroyed an apartment building where the woman was on the first floor. Her father-in-law, who was nearby, was also killed.
Olena Hrebeshkova was a teacher of Russian language and literature, as well as a homeroom teacher at Avdiivka School No. 2.
“Olena Ivanivna was my favourite teacher, my homeroom teacher — we called her our school mother,” wrote former student Yuliia Nosenko.
“Fair, cheerful, kind, intelligent, an excellent organiser, a person with a big heart… Our bright, dear person, you will remain in our memory as a talented teacher, a loyal friend, and a person of great integrity,” wrote Olena’s colleagues and acquaintances.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Olena Hrebeshkova and her family had remained in Avdiivka. After the tragedy on May 23, her husband Serhii and her daughter Anhelina, together with her family, evacuated.
Olena Hrebeshkova is survived by her husband, daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law.
