Published 11 April 2026 year, 09:00

Senior Private Oleg Tsybulnyk, known by the call sign “Gorny,” was killed on May 11, 2022, during a massive airstrike on the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol. He was 48 years old.

Oleg was born in Oleksandrivka, Kramatorsk District. He graduated from the Donetsk Mining and Economics Technical School, worked at the Trudivska Mine for 19 years, and served as a shift supervisor in the civil service.

In 2018, he signed a contract with the Azov unit and served in the logistics platoon. Prior to that, he worked at a bakery in Mariupol and delivered bread to the military.

With the outbreak of full-scale war, he defended Mariupol. He last made contact on the night of May 7 from Azovstal, where continuous shelling was underway. “Don’t cry, you have to live… I love you very much,” he told his wife.

During his lifetime, he was awarded the “For Military Service to Ukraine” medal and the Order of Courage, 3rd Class; posthumously, he received the Order of Courage, 2nd Class.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

At 9:00 a.m.—a nationwide moment of silence. The Donetsk Regional Military Administration and the Heroes’ Memorial platform commemorate the fallen defenders from the Donetsk region.
